4 Science-Backed Ways to Relax During Quarantine Status

Now that so many of us are still in quarantine status, you might be feeling a little crazy and stressed out. Some of us might be scrambling to make fast cash for quarantine. However, if quarantine hasn’t been particularly stressful, at the very least, for most of us, it’s been very dull. Most of us don’t know how to deal with having so much free time on our hands. With work and our busy social lives, this is a huge change that may negatively impact us. Experts have weighed in, and what they have to say may surprise you.

Although we have more time to relax than ever before, most of us are not spending the quarantine in a way that’s beneficial to our mental health. Binging endless tv shows and scrolling through social media timelines all day can have a negative impact on our mental health.

There are a few other science-backed ways to decompress from everything that’s going on. Sometimes it’s best to shut the news off and spend a few hours doing something relaxing that’s good for your mind, body, and soul.

Here are a few things you can try doing next time you’re feeling restless.

Relax During Quarantine Status – Going for a Walk

Walking is an excellent form of low impact physical activity. It’s recommended that each person take roughly 10,000 steps per day to maintain optimal physical health. One thing that every health-focused study can agree on is that walking is an excellent activity for people of all ages.

Did you know that walking also has fantastic benefits for your mental health as well? A study done in 2016 showed that walking could make you feel more creative, happier, and also reduces boredom. Don’t worry if you can’t go outside in your area during quarantine status, walking indoors if excellent as well.

Listening to Music

It turns out that people on Tik Tok dancing and singing are really onto something. Music can have an incredible effect on our mood and mental health. If you’re not one for being silly on social media, just listening to music will help to reduce anxiety and make you feel more at peace.

Sleeping

This might seem like a no-brainer, but even in quarantine status, many people are not getting sufficient sleep. Adults must aim at getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. When you deprive yourself of sleep, your body takes longer and has more difficulty fighting off diseases.

People are more likely to get infected with viruses when they’re sleep-deprived due to a decrease in their immunities. On the flip side, if you find yourself sleeping too much, it may be a symptom of depression.

Try Doing Yoga

If you feel frazzled mentally and stiff physically, it can be a very discomforting feeling. You should consider doing some yoga to loosen up. Yoga can be an intense physical activity or a relaxing mind and body experience. It all depends on which type you try.

We’re aware that there are no yoga classes at present, but thanks to streaming services or even YouTube, you can get lessons for free at any time.
