Analysing Potential Transfer Targets for Borussia Dortmund

With another month still to go until the official closure of the German transfer window, BVB still have plenty of time to bring in one or two more fresh faces in addition to those we have already seen arrive.

Having signed Thorgan Hazard, Julian Brandt, Mats Hummels and Nico Schulz this window, Dortmund have added four potential starts to what was already an incredibly strong squad. If Marco Reus continues his excellent run of form and stays injury-free throughout 2019/20, there is no telling what BVB could achieve this season. And that’s not to mention the super exciting rise of Jadon Sancho, who continues to develop at a frightening pace.

On the other hand, there have been some significant outgoings this season, with Christian Pulisic and Abdou Diallo both heading for pastures new. Pulisic, in particular, may prove to be a big loss, with Chelsea hoping that the American can help them return to challenging for the Premier League title.

With over €100m already spent, it’s unlikely we will see many more big-money signings coming into Signal Iduna Park. With that said, there remain some intriguing rumours linking Dortmund to some exciting players both within Germany and across Europe.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at and analyse some of the remaining potential transfer targets for Borussia Dortmund…

Diadie Samassekou – RB Salzburg

After a stellar season with Salzburg last year, Malian midfielder Samassekou has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

At just 23, the defensive midfielder impressed last season in the Austrian Bundesliga, helping RB Salzburg to yet another league title. With considerable top-level experience for his age, having been a key part of Salzburg’s Europa League run back in 2018, Samassekou will be an attractive proposition for teams looking to bolster their resources in the centre of the park.

Whilst Dortmund’s Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney made the CDM position their own last season, there are rumours that BVB may look to add to their options with the signing of Samessekou, who would cost around €20million to bring in.

Malcom – Barcelona

BVB had consistently inked with Barcelona’s Brazilian winger, Malcom this summer – who incidentally looks surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou after just one season. The potential transfer would have likely cost Dortmund close to €50million, a figure which may bring a grimace to the face of many close to Signal Iduna Park. However, he ended up being sent to Russia!

Whilst BVB may have signed promising winger, Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer – not to mention the importance of Jadon Sancho – it looks as though Lucien Favre may want to bolster his attacking options amid continuing concerns over the fitness and form of Mario Gotze.

What Malcom would have undoubtedly brought is a sense of urgency, pace and Brazilian flair to proceedings. A winger with a deceptively bullish frame, he would certainly excite fans both home and away with what is a direct style of play. Having paid Ligue 1 side Bordeaux €41million for Malcom’s services last summer, Barcelona were looking to offload the player after the arrival of Antoine Griezmann made the likelihood of further appearances at the Camp Nou even smaller.

Harry Wilson – Liverpool

After a hugely successful spell on loan in the Championship with Derby County last season, Liverpool’s Welsh starlet, Harry Wilson is firmly on BVB’s radar as yet another young British player they may want to sign up.

With 15 league goals to his name last year from an attacking midfield position, Wilson is a seriously talented player with bags of ability and serious potential to improve going forward. With first-team chances appearing limited due to Liverpool’s embarrassment of attacking riches, a move abroad may well be on the cards for the Welsh international, who the Reds value at around €30million.

After the success of young British players abroad such as Reiss Nelson and BVB’s very own Jadon Sancho, Wilson may well like the look of his chances at success overseas.
