Mahmoud Dahoud was known to be one of the best talents in the Bundesliga not long ago. But ever since his move to Borussia Dortmund came through, things haven’t been right since. This coming summer might be the right time for him to leave the club and resurrect his career rather than spending his time having to sort and filter among new casino sites 2020 to pass the hours spent on the bench.
The move came in the summer of 2017. At that point, Dahoud had been one of the most important players in the Borussia Monchengladbach side, having contributed to eight goals in the 2016-17 season for the Foals. The Dortmund move was seen as a step-up that he duly deserved.
Those were times of instability for Dortmund. Peter Bosz had been hired as the club’s new manager. During the last few weeks of the Dutchman’s era, results had become poor. Dortmund looked good going forward but too shaky at the back like his Ajax side. This period saw Dahoud go in and out of the side, as he made only three starts and struggled with fitness.
Peter Stoger took over and took the club to a respectable fourth position finish. Dahoud had played only 1137 minutes of Bundesliga football and as always, had been an inconsistent member of the first-team. He did though, grab four assists while playing as the central midfielder.
Lucien Favre’s appointment at the club was marked by the arrivals of Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel. On paper, that should have rung the bells for the 24-year-old German. The two arrivals saw Dahoud fall out of favour at Dortmund. He made only 14 Bundesliga appearances, playing just 694 minutes of football in the league. While Witself and Delaney became regular members of the side, Dahoud became a bit-part player. He needs some extra spins 2021 for sure.
It was during this season that Dahoud spoke about his bit-part role at the club. He told SportsBuzzer (via BuliNews): “I don’t see myself as a benchwarmer. Everyone needs to sit out now and then.
Dahoud’s situation hasn’t improved this season either. The Syria born midfielder has played just nine Bundesliga games, with Emre Can now a regular in midfield even though Julian Weigl has left for Benfica.
It has come to a point where even Raphael Guerreiro has been used in midfield, but Favre hasn’t played Dahoud properly enough. His last start for the club came back in February against Wolfsburg in a 3-0 win for BVB. And Dahoud had enjoyed a very good game, completing two dribbles and winning two tackles. He also came up with one key pass.
Strangely enough, that was only his third start of the season. It shows that while he is still a very good player, Dortmund isn’t the right club for him. Can and Witsel are the undisputed regulars, with Delaney and Dahoud behind them.
But Dahoud is still 24 and much younger than Delaney. Any other club can still sign him and play him regularly in midfield. And like he did against Wolfsburg, he can still impress and dominate games from midfield.
His current deal runs out in the summer of 2022 and considering he is still 24, Dortmund can get a good value from his sale. They are the sort of club that relies on smart recruitment and won’t have problems replacing him either.
But it is better to not stagnate Dahoud’s development at this stage. It won’t help either party.
