Borussia Dortmund After Haaland Era

Erling Haaland left Borussia Dortmund this summer, transferring to Manchester City. It was expected to see the Norwegian super talent leaving Signal-Iduna Park because he simply became bigger and better than Borussia, even though that sounds odd for many of you.

The Bundesliga predictions today don’t see Borussia in the title race. Bayern is far ahead of all the rivals in Germany, and as time goes by, the Millionaires are slowly being eclipsed by RB Leipzig in the race for the second-best team in the country.

Loss of Power

Since Jurgen Klopp left, Borussia lost its power, even though they managed to cope with Bayern for a couple of years more during Thomas Tuchel’s reign.

The Millionaires were an excellent incubator for unreal talents who would evolve into superstars and world-class players, but other than that, the club from Borussia couldn’t do anything more. Their last trophy was the DFB Pokal in 2021, but it was also the only one since the 2017 season.

Jackpot

Haaland was Borussia’s jackpot once they landed the fantastic striker from Red Bull Leipzig at the time. It was obvious that the Millionaires would profit from him in various ways.

Not only did he himself bring a lot of money to the club’s bank account, but other players’ value was boosted because of Haaland. Some due to excellent stats, others because of the hype, but the point is that the Norwegian helped Borussia.

The question now is what to do after Haaland and how to adjust to the new circumstances.

Now What?

We strongly believe that Borussia already had a plan for this situation. They have scouted a few potential replacements, landing two of them, Sebastian Haller from Ajax and Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg.

Haller is unfortunately away from the field for the moment, taking care of his health issues, but even so, Borussia has a lot of options upfront.

Money earned from Haaland’s transfer is invested in these two players, plus two more, Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg and Salih Ozcan from Koln. Niklas Sule arrived on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

On the other side, apart from Haaland, one more prominent name left the team, and that is Axel Witsel, who ended up in Atletico Madrid. Dan-Axel Zagadou was released as he and the team couldn’t find a mutual language.

The bottom line is that Borussia replaced all the departures and added more quality on top of that. After Haaland, the goal for the Millionaires is to remain in the top four teams in Germany, push as far as they can get in Europe, and keep on providing big talents.

Bundesliga predictions project Borussia a top-three finish and a ticket to the UEFA Champions League next season. As for the talent, they have plenty of it.

Who Else?

Their next golden goose is the English teenager, Jude Bellingham, who is only 19 years old but is already worth nearly $100 million. Giovanni Reyna, another teen, is also in the mix for a massive transfer.

The head coach, Edin Terzic, will have a lot of work ahead of him, but overall, he should manage to fulfill all the objectives.

Things might become significantly easier if Christian Pulisic gets back to Signal-Iduna Park. The American forward, who played in Borussia a few years back, didn’t settle in Chelsea very well.

According to the sources from England, he will leave Stamford Bridge in the next few weeks, and coming back to Borussia is one of the more realistic outcomes.

Pulisic knows the system and the environment, as he is practically a child of the Millionaires. He would be a perfect leader in the midfield with his quality and, more importantly, experience.

Despite having only 23 years, the American’s journey is colorful, and it will certainly shape public bettors’ thoughts on Bundesliga picks. Pulisic wants to play as much as possible to stay in the form for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and Borussia couldn’t be a better choice for him.
