Borussia Dortmund’s Trip to Bayern Munich is their Biggest Game of the Season

This weekend sees one of the Bundesliga’s biggest games of the season when Borussia Dortmund visit the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich. Meetings between Bayern and Dortmund are always big; but for Dortmund, this one is particularly so. Indeed, this one is Borussia Dortmund’s biggest game of the season – and German betting experts sportwetten-test.org believe they could spring a surprise.

It’s fair to say that this campaign has not gone as Dortmund will have hoped. Their league form has been disappointing, and they currently sit in 5th place having lost eight of their twenty-three Bundesliga fixtures.

Die Schwarzgelben started their league campaign strongly, with four straight wins without conceding a goal. But a home defeat to Bayern Munich led to inconsistent form, which has seen them either be brilliant or awful, while they are over-reliant on the form of Erling Braut Håland and Jadon Sancho.

But away from the Bundesliga, things are a bit brighter. They have reached the semi-finals of DFB Pokal following a 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach, and are still in the Champions League; next week they face Sevilla in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie, having won 3-2 in Spain in the first.

Despite their inconsistencies this season, there is no doubt that Borussia Dortmund have a good squad with some incredibly talented players. And the vultures are circling. Jadon Sancho has been linked with a big-money move back to the Premier League for the past eighteen months with Manchester United touted as a possible destination, while Erling Braut Håland is being eyed-up by a number of clubs including Chelsea.

You get the feeling that the only way Borussia Dortmund are likely to hold on to their young superstars is by qualifying once more for the Champions League. And this is why their weekend visit to Bayern Munich is so important.

Although they are still in this season’s competition, the odds of Dortmund winning it are pretty long. And so the best way of securing Champions League football for next season is through their Bundesliga finish.

Dortmund go into their clash with Bayern in good form having recorded four straight wins following a disappointing draw at home to Hoffenheim, and so they will be full of confidence when they kick-off at the Allianz Arena. However, Bayern too are in good form and have lost just once in their last twelve games and will go into the clash with Dortmund on the back of a 4-1 win at Lazio in the Champions League, and a 5-1 win over Köln in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund need Champions League football next season for a whole host of reasons, and a positive result at the Allianz Arena will be critical in helping them to achieve that.
