Gio Reyna set for new contract at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have somewhat received worldwide fame for their ability to produce some of the finest youngsters within the game and provide them with the very best set-up to get their careers off to a flyer. Bettors will wish they had tipsters as good as the German club appear to have in their scouting network when looking to place their bets on sporting events.

Robert Lewandowski was handed his first opportunity in German football by BVB before sealing a move to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, whereas Christian Pulisic made headlines with his performances for the Black and Yellow before securing a huge move to Premier League giants, Chelsea.

Jadon Sancho is one of the latest names to have attracted interest from England’s top division, however Manchester United do not appear to have made any friends with their pursuit of the England international as they Germans were left bemused and baffled at what the Red Devils were doing throughout the summer.

Let’s not forget about Erling Braut Haaland, either. The Norwegian striker has catapulted himself into world football as one of the most prolific strikers that the game has seen and he definitely has a bright future ahead of him.

Dortmund did manage to get their own business done, though, which saw Jude Bellingham join Lucien Favre’s side from Birmingham City in a big-money deal. There are hopes that he will become the next breakout star at the Signal Iduna Park outfit, following the aforementioned men.

And, it seems they are ready to try and tie down one of their current young stars to a new deal. Gio Reyna is reportedly set for a long term contract extension with Borussia Dortmund when he turns 18 next month, and it will also see him get a big pay rise.

BILD report that he will sign a three-year contract when he turns 18 next month and that the long term extension will see him earn an annual salary of 2.5 million euros.

Reyna made his Borussia Dortmund debut in January and has since become a regular starter. He has enjoyed an excellent start to the new season, scoring two goals and became the first 17-year-old to register three assists in a single Bundesliga game during Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 win over SC Freiburg.

Speaking to BILD during pre-season, Reyna said that he is very happy to remain at Dortmund amid interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.

“Right now, I am very, very happy here, and that is all that counts,” Reyna said. “Dortmund is not a stepping stone to me. It is a club that is fighting for titles. The incredible fans alone make the BVB something special.”
