Young footballers with potential emerge every day, but not all of them make it to the top. Talent isn’t the only thing to make in a European top club. A player like Kylian Mbappe has shown to have the right mentality, the young Frenchman is only 20 years old and already won many trophies in his young career. The French international won three French league titles (one with Monaco and two wit PSG) and won the World Cup in 2018.
Who will be the next wonderkid to keep an eye out for in the coming years? Let’s have a look at some potential talents that may rise to stardom very quick!
The 2019-20 season has started and it looks like there is no shortage of potential wonderkids all across Europe. Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior, who now can call himself a Brazilian international, is hoping to fill the void Cristiano Ronaldo left and could be one of the wonderkids, leaving his ‘young talent’ status behind. In the Premier League, Callum Hudson-Odoi is aspiring to become the new Eden Hazard at Chelsea.
Now let’s have a look at João Félix and Jadon Sancho. Félix moved from Benfica to Atlético Madrid for a record amount of £113.40m and Jadon Sancho decided to stay at Dortmund for the time being. Though many analysts, for example, ex-England international Joleon Lescott, believe Sancho could go back to England and play in the Premier League.
Let’s have a look like at the statistics. João Félix played 297 minutes in La Liga, scored one goal and made one assist in four games. Jadon Sancho played 360 minutes for Dortmund, scoring two goals and giving five assists. One goal every 180 minutes. The Englishman also scored a goal and gave one assist in the DFL-Supercup against Bayern.
Both players have a market value of £90.00m and both players are 19 years old. Félix played three games with Portugal but hasn’t scored any goals yet and Sancho was active in 8 games with England and scored two goals in total.
The Portuguese international started the season off well but then struggled to keep up the same level in the following games. For example, against Real Sociedad, Félix went down with the team in a 2-0 loss. Moving from the Portuguese Liga NOS to La Liga, it looks like the Portuguese wonderkid might still need some time to adapt to the higher pace.
The English international, on the other hand, chose to stay (one more year) at Dortmund before moving to one of the top teams in Europe, likely the Premier League. Looking at the ratings Sancho received in his first games in the new season, we can see the young talent made an excellent choice to remain in Germany for now. The lowest rating the Englishman received is 7.71, in his game against Union Berlin. While the highest rating Félix received is only 7.37 when playing against Getafe.
It’s still premature to say Félix should have chosen a smaller club before trying to make it at Atlético, but one thing is for certain: Jordan Sancho did well to stick around at Dortmund. Though Sancho had lots of offers to join one of the top teams in the Premier League, he decided to decline the offers -something the Dortmund fans will certainly be very happy about. Surely, more is to come in the remaining season from at least one of the most talented young English players of this generation.
